LightScribe media, like a LightScribe DVD-R, uses the same laser that burns data onto the disc to burn an image onto the disc’s surface. These LightScribe DVDs are coated on one side with a reactive dye that changes color when in contact with an infrared laser light. With a LightScribe-enabled disc publisher, an inserted disc is burned with data, then flipped over and reinserted allowing an image to be produced on the coated side. The resulting images have the accuracy and detail that a laser allows which is much more precise than many other ink printing techniques. Like regular DVD-Rs, LightScribe DVD-Rs offer 4.7GB or 120 minutes of video storage capacity. LightScribe dual layer DVD-Rs are also available for those needing larger capacities.
